Municipal Specialist Certification Exam Preparatory Webinar

TOPICS TO BE COVERED

Urban forestry is a specialization within the arboricultural field.  This four-module course will give insights into the management aspects of an urban forestry program.  Additionally, it will prepare participants to take the ISA’s Municipal Specialist Certification exam to achieve that specific credential.  Topics covered include:

  1. An overview of urban forestry management.
  2. The broad range of benefits that trees provide the community.
  3. The design, implementation, and maintenance of a tree inventory.
  4. The use of the application iTree to quantify the environmental benefits of trees.
  5. The implementation of a proactive planting program to provide a sustainable urban forest.
  6. Managing for the long-term maintenance of public trees.
  7. The concept of “As Low as Reasonably Practical”

(ALARP) for developing tree risk management policy.

  1. Tree protection on construction sites.
  2. Administering an urban forestry program
  3. Specifications and Standards for municipal arboricultural practices.

 

COURSE SCHEDULE

The course will be offered in four 3-hour modules on consecutive Mondays and Wednesdays in September for a fee of $225 US.  The schedule for the four, 3-hour modules are:

  • Module 1 (September 20th) – Urban Forestry
  • Module 2 (September 22nd) – Tree Inventories and Plantings
  • Module 3 (September 27th) – Maintenance and Risk Management
  • Module 4 (September 29th) – Administration

To accommodate many different time zones and international colleagues, each module will be provided twice daily according to the schedule below:

  • Module A – 13:00 (EDT) (GMT -4)
  • Module B – 19:00 (EDT) (GMT -4)

COURSE DETAILS

Participants will have access to the four modules, course materials, case studies and a certificate of participation.  Twelve (12) International Society of Arboriculture CEU’s are assigned to this course.
