This intensive workshop provides a unique opportunity for managers and arborists to enhance their understanding of the risk associated with trees.  Guidance on how to manage trees in a way that is reasonable, practical and defensible will be one outcome for participants.

AS LOW AS REASONABLY PRACTICAL IN A TREE RISK MANAGEMENT CONTEXT

What topics will be covered?

  • Risk management concerns policies at the system level to reduce the potential of a negative event occurring. Policies will differ based on the resources being managed, resources available to manage, and mission.
  • How logical fallacies often dominate tree litigation discourse which often misrepresents how risk is identified and managed.
  • The concept of As Low as Reasonable Practical (ALARP) will be introduced and provide a framework for developing achievable risk reduction policies.
  • A number of instruments for analyzing risk and quantifying risk exposure will be presented.
  • A draft Tree Risk Management Plan will be provided and discussed.  Details will encompass both public and private sector use.
  • Workshop packet will include narratives on each topic, course exercises and the draft Tree Risk Management Plan. 

Where are the courses being held?

  • Chicago, is scheduled for April 4th, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency – Lisle.
  • Additional courses are planned for seven locations through March 2018.  Please email Natural Path to express interest in the Fall 2017 – Winter 2018 workshops being considered for New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.
  • Cancellations with full refund (less $20.00 cancellation fee) accepted up to 5:00 PM EST, March 27th for the Chicago Workshop.  Cancellations after March 27th will not be refunded.
